Have you ever looked at an Atari Lynx and thought another console would run better in its case? Well, one hardware hacker saw plenty of potential in the fabled handheld to harbour a Nintendo Gamecube instead. What appears to be the most far-fetched idea ever ends up producing one of the most beautiful portables you'll ever see - the GC - Lynx.
Starting back in September 2012, Akira of the Bacman forums has been slowly re-sculpting the Atari Lynx into his dream console. Starting out with gutting the system and removing the original handheld, this hardware hacker showcases the countless steps needed to create the GC - Lynx in his latest YouTube video. By the time the paint hits the outer case and the Gamecube controls begin to pop through, the sleekness and desirability of this modification become apparent - and if you're anything like us, you'll be lusting after this one of a kind unit. In order to fit the Nintendo Gamecube inside an Atari Lynx case, some unconventional adjustments were needed. These tweaks mostly related to the optical drive, which if it were to be included, would make the Atari Lynx even bigger than it already is. Instead, Akira made use of the WiiKey Fusion modchip which allows the Gamecube's disc drive to be replaced with SD Cards containing game discs. Towards the end of the video demonstration of the GC - Lynx various Gamecube classics are shown running on the handheld including the likes of F-Zero GX and Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. Needless to say they look incredible packed into another retro handheld. GC - Lynx (Gamecube Portable)
